South Lake Tahoe Event Spotlight: Lake Tahoe Paddle Festival
June 18th, 2010 categories: Lake Tahoe Real Estate, South Lake Tahoe Events, South Lake Tahoe, CA, Stateline, NV
Geotourism Alive and Well in South Lake Tahoe

Now here's an upcoming event we think will really float your boat (or board…)!
The Lake Tahoe Paddle Festival is back! Now in its 2nd year, the Festival is hosted by the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girl Club, which supports the Native American Youth Paddle Camp. This camp is restoring Native American watercraft sport and culture.
Called “the quintessential model of geotourism events” by the LTVA when it debuted last year, this year’s event will be taking a national stage when the Washoe & Paiute Tribes together recreate traditional tule reed boats for the first time in over a century.
Check out the indigenous and non motorized watercraft from around the world, in a fun and engaging celebration of native crafts, arts & culture.
Enjoy watercraft demonstrations, competitive paddling events, boat skills workshops and exhibitions that feature indigenous boat building and crafts.
Paddle fest has something for every paddler of all ages and skills. Be prepared to get wet and have fun! Live music and entertainment are featured as well.
Try out the world’s fastest growing sport—standup paddling—on a demo, or paddle your canoe or kayak over to learn more about protecting Lake Tahoe’s clarity and efforts to prevent the proliferation of invasive species.
Bring the grandparents and kids to learn about building ancient tule reed boats, dugout canoes or “old school” wood boards. There will be something for everyone in the family.
