What We were Thinking About when We Started this Blog
February 15th, 2010 categories: About this Blog, About Us, For Buyers, For Sellers, Lake Tahoe Real Estate, South Lake Tahoe, CA, Stateline, NV

It had all to do with a desire for accurate, rumor free information… without agenda.
One of the real surprises about running this blog for the last few years is that it attracts a lot of home buyers. This is both folks who actually do buy a South Lake Tahoe home (we've had 3 of these so far in 2010), or people who are interested in buying here eventually.
With the consistent reports on market trends and conditions that we do here, especially with all of the charts and statistics, it makes sense that this would be a good buyer attraction model. But this was not our first thought behind starting this blog.
Our first thought was to provide consistent information for the public that is accurate… without agenda. By that we mean this; we were tired of seeing three different brokerages claim that they were number one in the South Lake Tahoe real estate market. We found it ridiculous that some half dozen real estate agents or so claimed that they sold more real estate here than anybody else.
We also took objection to some brokerages reporting different market trends and conditions than what they actually are. This is what we mean when we use the term "agenda" as it relates to real estate market reporting. The best example we have yet seen about this happened two years ago, when the market was down, and a local brokerage reported a median sold price some $250,000 higher than it actually was.
The report came out in the local newspaper and it was designed to get more listings. The rationale behind the brokerage's tall tale was the higher the median sold price the more likely a seller would consider selling their house… and list with them. How the brokerage manipulated the median sold price was to average the median sold price from all four separate multiple listing services around the lake, and then insert that number into an article specifically about South Lake Tahoe– a real estate market that is decidedly different, and lower in home values, than that of Incline Village for example.
A year later that same brokerage claimed in the local newspaper that they outsold all other brokerages in our region by almost twice the amount of sales. To justify that they double-counted some $32 million in sales across our state lines in the South Lake Tahoe, CA MLS, and misrepresented sales results in one local office as that of a "region". And it was not true.
We won't name that brokerage, but lets cut to the chase, our thought back then, and it steadfastly remains so now, is that the public deserves better. That was what we were thinking back in the fall of 2007 when we started this blog.
We thought that if the public had a South Lake Tahoe real estate resource they could trust, one that was accurate, updated consistently… and agenda free, two good things might happen, (1) the most important of which is that an accurate information resource would help the market, and the public at large, and (2) some folks would want to see if we might be able to help them because of who we are and what we do.
That we have attracted so many actual and interested buyers… in such a difficult market is certainly a welcomed surprise. It all has to do with providing information you can trust… about Lake Tahoe and us… all of the time.
