The Alpine Lodge – 585 Alpine Drive – Tahoe Keys
We don't feature listings here much. In fact, we've only done this a few times in the last two and a half years.
One of the reasons we so seldom do "featured listings" is they are so often overused… to the point that the term is little more than cliche. When one sees the term "featured listings" on a brokerage or agent level website, think "all of my listings" and one will be much closer to truth. And more often than not, most such listings have little to feature about them at all. (detailed discussion here)
The point we're making here is this, we rarely ever do a featured blog post on any of our listings, and when we do it's truly something special, extraordinary if you will, that we want to bring to your attention. This is one of those.

We're going to take a guided tour, but lets first show you an overview of the Tahoe Keys, the only South Lake Tahoe neighborhood with full lake access from private boat docks in your backyard.
The Alpine Lodge – 585 Alpine Drive

Located in the upscale community of the Tahoe Keys, this South Lake Tahoe, CA waterfront home is one of the more remarkable listings we have ever had, both in terms of house for the price, and it's built-in vacation rental income.
Not included in the price of the house, though reaonably negotiable, the Alpine Lodge has the most impressive branding and vacation home marketing and booking package we have ever seen (See "Vacation Holdings" below).
The home is open, airy, wonderfully bright, with a high vaulted ceiling over the great room, and custom wood accents throughout its spacious 2,274 sq of living space.
With 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the Alpine Lodge has a thoughtful floor plan; the main living area is on the top floor, which best provides inspiring views of the water and surrounding Lake Tahoe mountain range.
Impeccably maintained, the Alpine Lodge is ideal for big time entertaining… Lake Tahoe style. There is a great great-room, gourmet kitchen, separated dining area, and a game room, pool table and outdoor hot tub. The kitchen is resplendant with granite counter-tops and almost every amenity a gourmet cook might desire.
Redwood decking about the Lodge opens to mountains and lake and lake views, hot tub, and leads to the hot tub and private boat dock. The fenced yard with landscaped lawn also leads to the boat dock area.
The Alpine Lodge is great for families who enjoy outdoor activities and water sports, especially those who appreciate the ease of coming off the majesty of Lake Tahoe and docking your boat just a few steps from your back door.
Vacation Holdings: (the Vacation Rental Income Producing Package)
The Alpine Lodge is owned by Vacation Holdings, LLC, a cutting edge, high tech focused firm known for creating a theme decor throughout all of their income generating vacation homes.
This Vacation Holdings property features upscale furnishings with that Tahoe feel. Rustic and alpine leaf accents create just the right designer look throughout the home. One never forgets they are on vacation here.
No detail has been overlooked, and this is what we mean by a branding package: Alpine Lodge linens are embroidered with the Alpine Lodge logo…amenity soaps and shampoos are also provided for their guests.
Vacation rental guests also have access to Tahoe Keys amenities (indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, and tennis courts for a minimal fee per day).
As of today, the Vacation Holdings rental package has produced $58,000 in vacation rental income for 2009, with 64% rental occupancy throughout the year. No other vacation rental or property management firm has been used to produce these results, which are rather extraordinary in the current economic climate.
Most all Alpine Lodge vacation renters are repeat customers coming off of the various Vacation Holdings and Alpine Lodge web sites.
Imagine being at your vacation home, feet up, lounging on the deck, just a few steps from your boat parked in the slip of your private dock. Moments later, your family and friends are in the boat with you. Under the stunning Tahoe blue sky, with a wake behind you, you take in Mountain Peak, Tallac and the snow capped mountains around you. Twenty-six miles away, these mountain peaks sparkle upside down, reflected at the waters edge on the far side of the Lake.
Perhaps you've already been to Emerald Bay, and had lunch at the Beacon, and you're heading back now. Only a few more minutes back to your dock, then it's hot tub time. The perfect ending to a perfect Lake Tahoe day.

Just past the front door of Alpine Lodge is a staircase to the left. Designed with people in mind, these stairs are not steep; they're elderly guest friendly. The stairway leads up to the main living space. Here is the great room, and the first thing we notice is the custom design, luxurious furnishings, and a wall of glass with spellbinding views of the wide waterway and captivating array of boat docks beyond.
Great Room, Kitchen, Dining Area : (back)
One of the things about The Alpine Lodge we find most appealing is its open floor plan, airy Tahoe feel and high vaulted ceiling over the Great Room. The kitchen and dining area, of course, are part of it, all included under that custom woodwork, cathedral, Lake Tahoe ambiance that characterizes this charming home.
Great Room furnishings and decor, well…, think interior decorated, because it is. By a real pro! Seating is the epitome of vacation comfort; there's a sofa, love seat, lounge chair with ottoman in one corner. There's a 40" Flat Screen TV here, DVD player, Sound System and iPod Station.
The open-hearth, natural river rock, wood burning fireplace is a Lake Tahoe dream, cozy, nestled perfection for romantic winter nights by the fire.
The furnishings are not included, but are negotiable. Considerable expense was given to this important contributor to the overall look and feel of the Lodge. Think $50,000 for interior design, furnishings and decor, but don't let that scare you. We're representing reasonable people here. List of all furnishings here.
The dining area comfortably seats 8 guests. We like the canoe light fixture with the teepee lamp shades over the dining room table. It's a Tahoe thing!
The kitchen also has a nice breakfast bar, also ideal for buffet style entertaining or extra seating for children.
Cabinetry is oak with a natural finish. Amplifying the thoughtful design theme that so much personifies the Lodge, we noticed that cabinet and drawer pulls are shaped Alpine leaves, and the wallpaper around them also has free flowing, fallen autumn leaves. (This place is outrageous.)
The open and spacious Kitchen features granite counters, and of particular glee for serious chefs, there is a professional, six-burner Viking range.
There is a microwave, GE oven, microwave and double door refrigerator. Small appliances include a food processor, blender, four slot toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, maker, bread machine, rice steamer, crock pot and even an ice cream maker!
The Decks : (back)
A spacious deck is a beautiful thing here in Lake Tahoe. With more than 270 days a year of sunshine, our exceptional climate lends itself to outdoor living. We dine on our deck some 6 months of the year, and our doors are always open from mid June through October. Air conditioning here at the Lake is, well… we don't have any. And there are few bugs that bite (I usually get about one mosquito bite a year, but didn't this one.)
Through sliding double doors off the great room, the deck leads to outdoor dining highlighted by views of the Tahoe Keys channel. A stairway leads to the lawn, lots of BBQ's and summer games, your private boat dock, and the hot tub. Oh my!
Master Suite : (back)
How about a stately queen size four-poster pine bed with stair-steps? The Master Suite has got that, a matching armoire with a 24" TV and DVD player.
A large sliding glass door leads to a front deck where you can enjoy morning coffee. The bed is also one of feather, with lush down pillows and comforters for your enjoyment and comfort. The master bathhas two large mirrored closets with vanity and separate shower.
Guest Bedrooms : (back)
The second guest bedroom is across the hall from the Master suite. It too has a sliding glass door that leads out to yet another private deck on the front side of the home.
This bedroom has been decorated in a fishing theme, with real canoe oars that have been made into night stands. The queen size bed is also feathered, with down comforters and custom bed covering made to match the wallpaper in this inviting guest room.
In winter months the beds are supplied with flannel sheets. Here a boat book shelf is stocked with books on fly fishing (design to the last detail). The moment one steps into this bedroom fishing theme, one feels akin to the Washoe Indians whose summer camping grounds were Lake Tahoe. Get in your canoe, there's fish to be caught here!
The third guest room is also located upstairs. There's another feathered queen size bed here, and the decor is a lovely autumn leaf theme with matching bedding. The room ensemble has rustic, hickory wood night stands, a 24" TV w DVD player. A large closet extends the entire length of the room. A full-size bathroom with shower services both guest bedrooms.
The Game Room : (back)
Are you ready for game time? The Alpine Lodge has a large downstairs family room anchored by an impressive natural river rock fireplace. This wonderful, separated room on another floor gives families the benefit of enjoying time together, as well as apart.
There are two sleeper sofa beds here, a Pool Table, 40" flatscreen TV and DVD player. There's a mini office area with printer and fax machine.
Two sliding glass doors open to the patio and easy access to the private hot tub. A small wet-bar is next to the game table.
There's also a full size bathroom on this level, and a laundry room with large capacity washer and dryer.
Back Yard : (back)
Under the deck, and outside the family room you is your private hot tub. Yea! It can enthrall 6 adults comfortably. A nice patio replete with outdoor patio furniture is also nearby. The level, landscaped lawn, which is rather rare in Lake Tahoe, is ideal for children, or adults to play most any type of lawn games. (Badminton anyone?)
Tahoe Keys Amenities : (back)
Alpine Lodge is located within the Tahoe Keys waterfront community. The Tahoe Keys Homeowners Association provides such amenities such as an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, beach, hot tub, tennis courts and boat launch facilities at the tahoe keys marina. A small fee is charged for use of the homeowner amenities. there is a good restaurant at the Tahoe Keys Marina, the "Fresh Catch."
