South Lake Tahoe Gets Homeland Security Grant

New Bomb Response Robot Vehicle for South Lake Tahoe

The Tahoe Douglas Bomb squad has purchased a new bomb response vehicle and robot through a $763,000 grant from the state Department of Homeland Security.

Perhaps the most famous bombing locally occurred 29 years ago, when two men delivered a large device disguised as computer equipment to offices on the second floor of the Harveys Resort Casino.

Post the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, extra precautions have been taken locally because of Lake Tahoe’s status as a tourist attraction and its proximity to the state legislature.
